At the event ,,More prilika - EU Projects for a Sustainable Blue Economy of Montenegro” organized on June 25 in Podgorica by the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro (associated partner in the ADRISMART and BLUEQ projects), the Institute of Modern Technologies of Montenegro (IMTM) presented the BLUEQ project and held a thematic workshop within the ADRISMART project, dedicated to artificial intelligence in the blue economy
The event brought together institutions, universities, research centers, companies and decision-makers involved in blue economy projects. Presentations of the BLUEQ and ADRISMART projects, along with a workshop within the ADRISMART project, showed how scientific monitoring of marine ecosystems and digital solutions jointly contribute to the preservation of biodiversity, sustainable management of marine and coastal areas, as well as connecting science, business and public administration.
Artificial intelligence as a driver of the blue economy
The thematic workshop "Artificial Intelligence for a Sustainable Blue Economy: Opportunities for Marine and Coastal Sustainability and Biodiversity Protection" was implemented within the framework of the ADRISMART (ADRiatic Network for Smart MARiculTure) project, funded through the Interreg IPA South Adriatic program. Prof. Dr. Ivana Ognjanović (IMTM) presented how artificial intelligence transforms satellite, sensor, environmental and field data into information useful for decision-making, from monitoring the marine environment and predicting coastal risks, to monitoring biodiversity and optimizing resource use. The workshop program was rounded off with a panel debate on the potential, opportunities and challenges of applying artificial intelligence in this area.
IMTM presented the results of the BLUEQ project
At the session “Blue Projects - Let's get to know each other to achieve more”, IMTM representative Milena Ljutica presented the BLUEQ project, which is implemented within the Interreg IPA ADRION program. The presentation focused on the protection and sustainable management of marine ecosystems, as well as the role of Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows in storing blue carbon. Key project results were presented, including the BLUEQ Digital Hub, the observatory and findings from field surveys conducted in four pilot areas in Greece, Italy, Albania and Croatia; as well as the planned development of a joint WebGIS solution for monitoring marine habitats, assessing blue carbon stocks and supporting the decision-making process.
The event ,,More prilika - EU Projects for a Sustainable Blue Economy of Montenegro" confirmed that Montenegro has the knowledge and partners for the development of the blue economy. Through the ADRISMART and BLUEQ projects, IMTM continues to connect digital technologies, marine science and international cooperation for the benefit of the sustainable development of the Adriatic.
